Affordable Housing Conference – Sydney Masonic Centre

June 27 @ 9:00 am - June 28 @ 5:00 pm

The 2018 conference theme – Everybody’s Home – highlights the current and growing shortfall of accessible and affordable housing in Australia across the entire housing continuum.

Over two days, housing professionals from the private, not for profit, and government sectors will come together to share expertise and find out about the latest news in the industry.
The NSW Federation of Housing Associations and Homelessness NSW are jointly convening the NSW 2018 Affordable Housing Conference – Everybody’s Home from 27 – 28 June 2018 at the Sydney Masonic Centre, 66 Goulburn St, Sydney NSW 2000.

With housing affordability rising up the political agenda and elections on the way Everybody’s Home is expected to be our biggest conference ever, attracting not just the housing and homelessness sector but the industry’s financiers, property developers, government policy makers, land use planners, and academia. We have speakers lined up from Canada, the US and Europe to complement our stimulating and diverse program which features the latest in policy, research and practice. Speakers include AHURI academics Dr Michael Fotheringham (Executive Director) and Professor Richard Eccleston (AHURI fellow), Professor Hal Pawson, Dr Margaret Ward (Griffith), Dr Cameron Parsell (UQ), Associate Professor Jan Breckenridge (UNSW).

These academics are joined by speakers from the Grattan Institute and SGS Economics. International speakers include inclusionary zoning expert Richard Drlda of Toronto, expert on all things community housing – David Orr (National Housing Federation in England), Build to Rent expert Alex Notay (UK), and Emily Cadik talking on the US Affordable Housing Tax Credit system.

Session of particular interest to academics include:
• A national housing strategy: why every country needs one
• Can Build to Rent fly in Australia? (Long session)
• Community housing as part of a national plan
• Inclusionary Zoning: how could it work in NSW?
• Creating affordable housing for local communities
• Housing as Economic Infrastructure
• Bridging the financing gap
• Beautiful Density
• Is tax reform possible?
• Small and green: is this the future of affordable and sustainable development?
• Deal making: the challenges of funding and delivering housing development

The conference is an unmissable opportunity for academics to meet people working in the housing sector and to establish links with organisations for future collaboration. Sessions will be interactive, with discussion will be driven by attendees.
